Thoughts on the Arcteryx Incendio?

I was wandering through REI today and saw the Arcteryx Incendio windshirt.  It had a really nice feel to it, the fit was wonderful and it seemed to have a bit of stretch…and at 4.4 oz I was surprised no one had mentioned it yet.  I did a quick search and found nada on this site.

Has no one checked it out?  It had a decent “coffee-filter-breathe-thru” test….

Any data?  I really like my westcomb crest hoody, but I kind of want something simpler and the hood is awful.  Frankly if I could get someone to make me a simple Houdini-like windshirt out of the Equilibrium – with a good Rab-style hood! – I’d be a happy camper.  But for now my search (kind of…) continues.

I’ve had one for a few years now. Used to be the same material as the Squamish, but in a trimmer cut and without a hood. Has a small pocket too.

You might find more info by searching about the Squamish hoody.

The trimmer, more cropped fit and lack of a hood makes it more of a cool weather running jacket for me.  I think the Squamish is more versatile.

Your crest probably breathes a lot better as well.

the materials on the new ones is different from the squamish … 20D vs 30D

the cut is a less “storm worthy” than the squamish as well with a basic hood … its cut as a running jacket

and there are mesh underarm panels …

its meant as a highly active jacket in the hills

;)

Slightly off topic, but I tried on the Incendo shorts last week at an REI and it was one of the most comfortable running shorts I’ve ever tried on. I wish the inseams were a little shorter or I would have bought it. I wish their other shorts were made of the same material.

Jen – I seem to be moving along the same path as you. Have had the 2016 Incendo Hoody now for a few months – the green one. The material, fit and fantastic mesh pits totally swayed it for me. The Incendo has now replaced all my windshirts. Still use Arc Squamish in colder weather (awesome oxblood color) and that EMS windshirt I posted about earlier.

I have a Rab wind shirt made from Pertex Equilibrium.

It is called the Rab Alpine Jacket, which generic as the name was (making things interesting during a Google search), is now the name of their down jacket…

They might have gotten rid of it and made their new versions the Windveil Jacket, which is made with Pertex Microlight, not Equilibrium.

Would love to hear more about it too.

I’ve only seen on wind shirt and a pair of shorts my Teton Bros (Japanese brand) made from Microlight. Tried them on but only in the shop.

Teton Bros makes a lot of specialised gear, working often with materials only just in the market. I think Microlight is a bit more robust than what I see from Equilibrium (less abrasion?) and though breathable, perhaps less so than Equilibrium. All first impressions from a 5 minute smell test only.

I just looked at the Incendo at my local REI and compared it to my cir 2015 Squamish.  Using the unscientific breath-through test, the Incendo was much less breathable than my squamish.  My squamish I can just about breath though it to take a full breath in 5-6 seconds.  I’d very roughly estimate the Incendo to somewhere like 5-30% of that permeability.  I’ll be sticking with my squamish for better breathability.

From breath testing in the store, the inscendo seemed lacking in breathability. Jenn, if you like the breatheability of the crest, but want something lighter/simpler, the nike impossibly light jacket is an excellent option. Its just about as breathable as equilibrium, but much lighter. My size large weighs 3 oz, and its become my go to windshirt for everything from trail running to backcountry skiing. You can push breath right through it, unlike most UL windshirts.
