Other than some mattress protection I wasn’t impressed with this pad. It’s not nearly as comfortable as a sit pad as the Zlite egg crate style. Picks up thorns and stickers also.

I love this pad! here’s why I use it: to protect my sleep pad from aggressive punctures. I use a polycryo sheet below my tent floor, but the pad is far better protection.

Very light and adds a bit of R2 as well.

Of course I do due diligence in choosing my tent site. It only takes one mistake to puncture a pad. never happened yet. Hundreds of nights.

Ever roll into camp in the dark, or in pain and tired, or in a storm, in a hurry to get the tent up? Of course.

I have carried mummy-shaped 1/8″ thick closed cell floor underlayment in winter to help my REI All Season R 5.2 insulated air mattress. Not sure I needed it on a 5 F. night but had it anyway. Slept well in my -20 F. down bag. (So OK, the winter bag may have been overkill, howsomever… my +20 F. WM Megalite with down pants and jacket might have cut it – or not.)

I have heard many craft stores carry this same material.  Trying to find the correct size might be more difficult.

Thanks for that link, Link. I ordered one yesterday. I needed some more 1/8″ foam for my MYOG projects (cuben insulated water bottle holders), and it will be nice to place a piece under my sleeping pad to keep it in place. It was a bit expensive, with the Priority USPS shipping cost, but it should turn out to be a lifetime supply of 1/8″ foam.

Well, that’s yet another fine mess you got me into, Link. Yesterday I folded that large piece of foam in half, lengthwise. It precisely fit inside my beloved Durston X-Mid 1P. Unfolded, it fit OK inside my Durston X-Mid 2P , but it didn’t cover the entire floor.

So I had no choice but to order another one, to be dedicated to the X-Mid 2P tent, as well as other 2P tents that I have.  I will cut the first one in half, which will give me a LOT of foam for my MYOG projects. I still have a decent PayPal balance from when I made and sold those grills, JB pot riser ‘thingies’ , and pot supports. So in effect, these foam pads were pretty much free. And I am quite happy to have a lifetime supply of foam for my geeky projects.

Way to go, Link – you are my problem-solving hero (heroine)!

Whoops! This morning I cut the piece so as to make one pad for the sleeping pad and the other for a supply of foam for my MYOG projects. Those two pieces averaged 10 oz each – a big bummer. That means that the full pad for the X-Mid 2P tent would come in at a whopping 20 oz. These weights are prohibitive for backpacking, but it would be OK for truck/car camping. It looks like I’ve outsmarted myself here. But at least I’ve got a lifetime supply of 1/8″ foam! I also have another technique to use to keep the sleeping pad in place, which is way lighter than this foam. Some of my ideas work out, but sometimes they don’t. But like my late mom used to tell me, “At least the time you put into your projects keeps you off the streets and out of the bars…”
