I am glad you liked it John and thanks for your comment, I was beginning to think that no one cared about this interesting story of a famous hiking trail and how it got it’s start . I had only heard a very little bit about her and I think it’s only because I am from WA. state but I learned more about her with this story.

I find it fascinating also! It was my mother who got me started in hiking and camping(my father wasn’t interested.) She signed us up for the THE MOUNTAINEERS in the early seventies and we became REI members then also. Her father was a scout leader and did mountain search and rescue also, I think she gets it from her parents but particularly her father(her mother camped and hiked also.) It brings back fond memories of my mother and grandparents.
