I’m starting a modified version of Skurka’s High Route on Sunday.  Taking the trail from Bruce Bridge TH to Lonesome Lake, then Skurka High Route to Glacier Trail, then Glacier Trail to Trail Lakes TH.  I’m trying to cut some weight and trying to decide if I need micro spikes.  Anyone have advice or have been up there recently?  Thank you!

I’m curious to hear from anyone that has done the route this year.  I’ve done it several times previously and it really depended on the year.  I did a couple passes in early August and the snowpack seemed extremely low.  I don’t think you would have any issues without microspikes.  I do think you need the mindset that you could be taking a risk if you get caught in a snowstorm or may need to take a longer route around some snow rather than up and over it.

Thank you for the info.  I hope someone who’s been there recently can chime in!  Looks like the weather will be a little warmer at least the first half of my trip cause of this heat wave, with lows in the mid 40s (at elevation).  But I am aware these are mountains and a snowstorm could happen at anytime, especially since it’s September.  Thanks!
