The best way to pitch a TT Stratosphere (according to me)

  1. Grab a pitchloc corner in left hand, and corner to the right in right hand.
  2. You are now facing the direction you will sleep. Roll out the shelter.
  3. Stake out pitchloc corners.
  4. Stake out apex guylines (90 degrees to line connecting pitchloc corners).
  5. You are now basically done. Stake out the other panels, or leave them.

Benefits: from the start, you can tell where you sleep and you save the fussy non-right angles for the end when everything else is taught.

What do you think? Better than Henry and Franco’s methods? :)

5. Stake out the non-pitchlock corners!

You don’t mention those, and we need them to define the sleeping rectangle.

Good tip about the 90 degrees.

Isn’t pitch-lock first Franco’s method? What’s the difference?

For the sake of precision: It’s StratoSpire not Sphere. (but, yeah, spellcheck thinks it knows)

I believe Franco’s method is to stake a pitchloc corner first and then work around the corners, putting in the trekking poles last.

My method involves putting in the trekking poles and staking the apex guylines immediately after staking both pitchloc corners.  It’s what I normally do for the Notch too. And, yes you would stake out the non-pitchloc corners at the end!

I would edit for clarity and to fix the autocorrected title, but it doesn’t seem to be possible to change my original post.

I still haven’t seen an easier (for me)  version of this :

BTW, sometimes I do the Notch end, poles, end but mostly the two ends first and then the poles.

It is very easy for me to judge the distance between the two ends (by the slack in the fabric)  so I prefer to do it that way.

Everyone talks about the easiest way to set up a tent… how about putting it away?  Setting up is easy; getting it back in the tiny little bag (particularly TarpTents) is a real challenge.  How about some videos on that?

Thanks Franco!… I should have known you had a video laying around like that :)  Do you also fold the Hogback in half before you roll it?  I’ve always rolled from one side to the other

I don’t have one of those and can’t remember how I did it but probably like the Scarp so yes I tend to fold it in half first.

The important bit is to try to roll it towards an opening so that the air can escape.
