This is for old school folks using a physical map.

This error spans both #129 – Buena Vista  and #130 – Salida, St. Elmo.

On Map #129, for southbound hiking on the Collegiates West leg, the error starts when the re-routed (2014) CT/CDT trail should leave the Timberline at the 414/416 junction, about 12 miles south of Winfield. The map follows the old route heading west on the 414. The new route heads east 2.5 miles to the 417, which takes you up to Cottonwood Pass proper.  The new route stays high, weaving across the Continental Divide and eventually dropping to the Tincup Pass road about 2 miles east of Tincup Pass. The CT/CDT continues immediately on the other side of the road.

Water is a little scarce up there. Fill up at the Cottonwood Pass tarn, which on the #129 map is obscured by the Parking icon. Next is Lost Lake, then a pond north of Mount Kreutzer, and finally stream 2 more miles south. Aside from a protected area, it is dry until you reach the Tincup Pass road.

The National Geographic Collegiates Loop map #1203 is correct, as is the Lattitude 40 Salida Buena Vista map.

It is a stunning piece of trail.
