Recently picked up some Terramar products and really like them so I want to try out some of their pants. Trying to decide between the Thermawool (have the top and like the material), Ecolator, and TXO. Since I can’t try them on anywhere around me I don’t really know how these compare and what different purposes they serve. Anyone who has work any of these I’d appreciate your incite and also what temp you think they are good for…thanks!

I think the Ecolator is grid fleece like the Patagonia R1. Its hard to tell the thickness or if it is really Polartec Powerdry but it looks interesting.
Yah that’s what I can’t figure out…more details on thickness, material, etc…their website isn’t to useful
I usually just wear the thermolator pants/shirt as a base layer. I do have the Ecolator 1/4 zip top, it’s 2.75mm thick 95% Polyester, 5% Spandex. Weighs 296g size Medium. It’s a soft grid inner fleece with a smooth outer. It’s my favorite winter shirt and I’ve gifted several (everyone loves it), it’s a very comfy fabric. I have the TXO as well it’s 82% polyester 18% spandex, weight 188g @ 1.5mm in Medium. It’s fabric is more like the thermolator, much thinner, but a great base layer. I’d say it depends what your activity and sweat level will be. The Ecolator is nice and comfy and warm for when your activity is light or out and about/in a cold house. If you’re being fairly active though, and unless you’re layering for some extreme cold, I prefer something lighter like the thermolator or txo even. It breathes and wicks well. I generally wear my thermolator pants/shirt all winter as a base layer going from outside sub freezing to toasty 30c indoors (wood stove) and it really doesn’t make me sweat additionally (much).
Thanks Chris! So if i’m looking for a baselayer that is more designed for around camp and sleeping in sounds like you would suggest the Ecolator?
Have you ever had one of their Thermawool products? I have the top so that’s the one thing I could compare it too.
Good info!
Yeah I’d say the Ecolator would definitely be more warm and comfy in that situation, IMO. No the thermawool is one of the few terramar products I haven’t tried lol.
The Thermawool stuff looks exactly like a generic fabric blend that a few lower end companies sell for a baselayer. For an example, i have a baselayer top and bottom made by a company cold Coldpruf. The fabric is 100% polyester treated with silver inner and 30% Merino wool/70% polyester blend outer.
The merino is pretty low quality, itchier stuff–i know because i’ve tried wearing it inside out. Wearing it the right way, or inside out, it doesn’t wick well.
Since it’s basically two layers of fabric, it’s on the heavier side and pretty warm. If it used a wicking polyester, and better quality Merino-also maybe a bit more–say a 40% to 45% Merino blend, it would be decent for more severely cold temps.
Cap 4 w/ polygiene type baselayers and fishnets are better.
