I picked up a Tarptent Notch here on BPL and have used it a few times.  I always use hiking poles, so the weight savings is significant versus the lightest free-standing tent I ever had.  It only requires 4 stakes, which I like and seems storm worthy.  I worry a little about splashing rain, but haven’t experienced much more than a heavy mist, so it remains a worry only.

My son has been using a DuoMid XL on some scout trips (with a buddy and it would fit 3 scouts easy). He hasn’t used the inner, which reduces the space greatly, but still bigger than the notch inside.  Without the inner this is lighter than the Notch, and you could add a bug bivy and be pretty close to the same with a ton more dry space in the rain.  For solo you could get a smaller mid, and even go cuben to get this down by much more.

The tent that intrigues me the most lately is the Duplex (or Triplex), but I haven’t been able to justify the cost.  That’s three alternative structures that use hiking poles rather than the mainsteam double walled tent with the flexible poles, which I doubt I will ever go back to.
