I just received the glorious news that I’ll have two-day workweeks for all of July, August and September. Five day weekends for twelve weeks in a row!

I’m located in Phoenix, AZ. I’m looking for recommendations of for 3 day hikes within a day’s drive of Phoenix that are not too hot. I’d like to get out of AZ. My initial thoughts:

  1. Sierra Nevada! Any suggestions for something accessed on the east side of the southern Sierra?
  2. Southern Utah? Too hot?
  3. Southern Colorado?
  4. New Mexico?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I wish I could edit my initial post. I meant “backpacking” not hikes. I’m hoping that is obvious since this is a backpacking website…

New Mexico is to your east and it has been pretty wet (avoid the 2012-13 burn areas) It’s about 5 hrs drive past Silver City,  into the twisty roads to get to the Gila. A few more hours gets you Ruidoso and Socorro

Thanks for the response. I’ll google.

I got a permit last night for Cottonwood Lakes in the Sierra Nevada. I’m hoping to bag Mount Langley from there.
