Suspenders

I’m thinking of switching from a belt to suspenders. I wear suspenders (called braces in the fashion world) everyday for work which are connected by loops and buttons. I can go that route and have a tailor sew on buttons.

The easiest option would be to use the “clip-on” style of suspenders but they usually have teeth on them which will tear into the nylon/poly pants that I wear. Hunting-clothes companies like Sitka also make suspenders with hardware at the end of the suspender that slides into a loop sewn into the pants. They could also slide into the belt loops on the pants.

Question – do any of you wear suspenders and what style (button, clip, hardware) do you use? Where did you get them?

I do occasionally. Mostly in the fall because the pants I wear then tend to fall and sag under a pack belt. My shorts and summer pants all have elastic waists, so not as much of an issue. I tried a few different types, but found the First Lite ones the best by far. Super light. Easy ‘biner style clip on and off. Perfect amount of stretch. Inexpensive. Did a quick search on their site and couldn’t find them, but they’re probably buried in there somewhere.

I made suspenders for my OR Helium rain paints using shock cord. The pants came with loops to accommodate suspenders.

The pants I typically use have thin webbing belt loops. I do worry about strength, but they are well stitched and haven’t failed yet. I have thought about sewing in specific loops for the suspenders, but doing so always falls to the bottom of my project list. It’ll probably take a tear out to get me to do anything about it.
