Sun Stretch and Silver Ridge Lite for bugs?

An early May trip landed me right in the middle of a biblical biting aphid hatch centered on the small lake I was on that night.  Nothing was able to bite through the Silver Ridge Light but I was covered in dozens of bites from them crawling under under the sleeve’s wrist opening.  Nothing entered the back vent.

Ever since that I permethrin the shirt and suffer nearly no bites, even hiking with the front unbuttoned to the navel.  They circle like a cloud but won’t land.  As much as I hate using these chemicals, its the only way to stay sane in the woods during Ontario’s bug infested summers.  But I’m careful to not wash the shirt in a lake as permethrin is toxic to fish, so I haul water up 200′ away and rinse the shirt in that.

I’ve had good results with the Sun Stretch, but you do have various holes in it (e.g. button holes, wrists etc) so I would use something more air tight in severe bug conditions.

I have been in heavy mosquito conditions in the Sierras and have not been bitten through my Sun Stretch. I trust it.

Thanks everyone.  I have talked to someone and they say they are using bug spray on their hands and wrists in addition to their neck and I think that is a good practice.
