Summer Base Layer Recommendations?

Living out in NY I am constantly worried about ticks.  In colder weather this isn’t a problem as I wear a SmartWool 150 hoodie tucked into lightweight thermal bottoms tucked into my socks.  The only things exposed are my hands and face.

However with warmer months coming, I’m hoping to duplicate this system without sweating myself to death.  I tend to run hot anyways and wearing base layers can definitely jack jack that up.

Does anyone have recommendations for lightweight, close fitting tops/bottoms that are more wicking/cooling than insulating?  Light colors are best as they allow me to see the little hitchhikers before I’m bitten.  And for the triple win, anything that doesn’t hold smells would make it perfect.

I’m male, my partner is female, we could both use recommendations…I beg the hive…what do you use?

Outdoor Research Echo for the tops but they don’t make bottoms.  Patagonia Lightweight Cap bottoms would have been my pick, but they don’t make them anymore.  I’d wear crew socks and have your socks and shirt sent off to Insect Shield to get treated.  For the bottoms I’d suggest the Rail Riders Insect Shield treated Eco-Mesh pants.

Thank you!  I’ve seen a lot of good recommendations for tops but like you said there seems to be nothing for bottoms. I’ll definitely check out the Rail Riders.

The RailRiders have big zippered mesh vents on the sides (that can be opened and closed) and are baggy, so they are the coolest pants I’ve found.  I’ve had mine since 2011 and they’ve been all over the country backpacking – I can’t recommend them enough.  My only caveat is they are not stylish as MC Hammer pants are not in style, but the bagginess helps keep them cooler than tighter pants.

I’m a huge OR Echo shirt fan too, but they do stink.  The lightest wool blends from Duckworth and Rab do better with the stink, but they are just too hot for me in the summer.  I’ve gotten to where all I will run in during warm weather is OR Echo shirts.
