Soto Windmaster Stove in Cold Weather?

Hi,
I recently picked one of these up and like it, but am not sure how it will do in the winter. My current winter stove is a MSR Reactor 1.0. It works well in the temps I have had it in–down to the teens, but is bulky and heavy. My understanding is this stove has a pressure regulator that keeps the pressure constant even at low temps.

How does the Soto do in the cold weather…15-30 degrees F or so? I believe it has a similar design as the MSR that regulates the pressure of the gas. If so then I would think it should compare to the MSR for cold weather.

Anyone have any experience with this stove in the cold or know how it compares to the MSR?

thanks
Matt

I have both of those stoves.  I’ve used the Reactor in temps down to the mid-teens and find it works OK as long as I trick the fuel canister by placing it in a shallow water bath.  The lowest temp I’ve used the Windmaster in is 40 degrees; if it’s going to be colder than that, I would definitely go with the Reactor.  While I cannot completely answer your question, but it stands to reason that the Reactor’s integrated pot/burner arrangement and insulated pot cozy are going to make it the more efficient option for the cold temps you are asking about.  Plus it just feels darn good when the pot is removed and you can warm your hands up!
