Hiked in the smokies before I moved close recently and while I’ve dealt with very low temps I’ve never hiked after a larger snowfall in the 6 inch to a foot range.

I ran into between 6-12 inches I would estimate of snow around 4000 feet and was wondering if others local to the area find any value in snowshoes. It almost seems to me that the heavier snow events may be just the right depth to make bare booting hard and snowshoes impractical.
