SMD Serenity net tent users?

Greetings.  Regarding the description that this net tent has eight inch walls at the head and foot end, are there any tips, tricks or ways to ensure getting the full height.  I’m not sure if the corners have struts or something.  Secondly, their website shows the footprint as 84 x 26.  After watching a few YT vids, it appears the middle is wider than the head and foot ends.  Can anyone verify and/or mention this dimension.  Thanks in advance,  ~RL

I have and use it occasionally.  No struts. I just pitch it.. 1, 2 , 3..never had any issues with walls at all. Im pretty sure its even width..here is a. Short video of it pitched…maybe that will help with size? Its a regular length, wide width sleeping pad in there..

Thanks for the link.  Nice vid.  I like the 84″ length.  Even the narrow width is fine with me. But if I can’t keep the eight inches up, the net might hang lower than designed.  Some of the YT vids, recent as well as older, kinda show some changes throughout its run.  Dunno.  I’ll keep digging around.

I use it with the SMD Deschutes tarp and the Serenity clips in so the top of the net tent “walls” at the foot and head ends are are determined by the pitch of the tarp, probably the 8″ you mention in a regular pitch. The shock cord that attaches the net tent to the tarp is designed to that the bottom corners will float up slightly until there’s something keeping it down. So it doesn’t impact the height, but doesn’t feel like 8″ because it’s not always fully extended (to the bottom) unless you have something in the corners causing it to be extended (like a stuff sack or headlamp — it doesn’t take much weight to pull it down). Works well in my experience, I’ve been using it this combo for two seasons. There’s enough room for me, but my sleeping bag does touch the net tent (but not the tarp) at the foot end and my head often brushes the net tent (again, neither touches the tarp which has good clearance if you use the guy lines). I’m 5’10” and use a 2.5″ pad.

Older Serenity net tents were pentagonal, giving a little room in the back of the tarp, but now they’re rectangular. The corners have a triangle of shock cord that I usually loop around the tarp stakes.

I have an old Gatewood harness without a d-ring, so I end up clipping it to the harness directly. One thing to note is that the net does not connect to the sides of the tarp at all, only the bottom corners and the top, so it can sag if it’s not tight. However, the Cape has tie-outs and inner snaps over the head and foot. I’ve been experimenting with a setup with little magnets on the snaps to see if I can get a little head room without stressing the mesh.
