Could you convert links to external sites (for example, those embedded in forum posts) to open in a new tab? In a forum thread it’s nice to open links to other sites and still reference the thread in the original browser tab.
If this cannot be done as one comprehensive move, maybe a setting can be adjusted to open links in new tabs going forward?
Thanks for considering.
Dec 19, 2025 at 8:27 am #3845348I assume you know this, but if you hold down the ctrl key, then click on the link, it will open in separate window. On a PC. I assume you can do something for apples.
And, I agree with you, it would be better to default to opening in a separate window
Dec 19, 2025 at 8:54 am #3845352Right clicking with a mouse should bring up several options. Of course with a smartphone it won’t work.
Dec 19, 2025 at 9:03 am #3845353Jerry, the command key does the same thing on MacIntosh computers.
Nick, a long pressing on smartphones and tablets open up a contextual pop-up menu similar to the right clicking behavior on desktop computers.
Dec 19, 2025 at 9:08 am #3845355I want to acknowledge the request here for forum links to open in new tabs by default. Personally, I don’t like it when websites force links to open in new tabs.
Is this a strong preference that many members have?

Or a two-finger click on a trackpad. Â :-)

No. Either way works for me. I mostly go online with a computer and it is easy to pick “open in a new tap” when I want that option.
Thanks for the tip of a long press on a phone.
Dec 19, 2025 at 4:19 pm #3845382Should be “new tab.”
I knew I shouldn’t go online with my phone.
Dec 19, 2025 at 5:41 pm #3845386All I use anymore is my phone. Computers are heavy. I’m not always home.
It’s a bit more difficult switching between tabs, but I can manage either way.
Dec 20, 2025 at 2:33 am #3845394Not a strong preference. I usually right-click links anyway. But I mildly prefer it the way it is.
Dec 20, 2025 at 9:49 am #3845406Didn’t know the right-click thing. Thanks!

Don’t break Web conventions! It’s trivially easy to open in a new Tab if you want it (I use middle-click on computer, long-click on phone) but horribly annoying when it happens every time whether you want it or not. JUST DON’T.
