Looking for slim fitting long hiking pants. I’ve had good luck with Marmot but looking to try something else. I’m about 6’5″ and 200 lbs, with a 36″ waist and 35″ inseam. I don’t expect to be doing any heavy bushwacking with these pants and have no conviction on regular vs. convertible types. I have noticed Arc Teryx, Railriders, and Montane manufacture pants with inseams around 35″ but I’m not sure about the slim fit.  Any comments?

Thanks in advance.

Personally, I’ve been using a pair of these:

Adidas Tiro 17 Training Pants

The are very slim fitting and I’ve been pleased with them so far, but I don’t know if they are available in a tall version.

My Railrider Eco Mesh pants are suuuuper baggy. If you are seeking a slim fit you should look elsewhere.

If you happen to come across any 29×34 pants, let me know! I currently use some Columbia silverridge (I think that’s the name) 30 longs that I’ve had tailored. They are still a bit baggy in the legs but not embarrassingly so.

I have a pair of Patagonia Quandary pants, and they feel pretty slim. They’ve got a pretty casual look, especially this year’s version.

Patagonia Gi III are slim. I don’t know if the longest length suits you or not.

Eddie Bauer makes pants in long lengths and different waist sizes, here is a link to one that says they come in a 36″ waist and 36″ inseam Men’s Guide Pro Pants , they have others but I will let you go through them all if it interests you.Be sure to check the different colors to see what sizes are available in the pants you are interested in(it will vary)especially since everything is 40% off right now with free shipping so they are selling out on some sizes.

Good thread.

I’m not exactly skinny but even so I find many pants humongous in the legs, like RR Eco Mesh pants… unzip the air vent panels and they look like those parachute pants from the ’80s.

From my experience you might want to look at European brands like Montane, Fjallraven etc. They tend to be slim fitting .

I have been very happy with Vuori V411 black pants for mild to cool weather hiking. Size 33 weighs 8.3 oz (235 g). When the day gets warmer I strip down to compression shorts. Vuori clothing is available from http://www.vuoriclothing.com/

Here are some links to pictures of me in them:

Camp Site 144 https://flic.kr/p/SbbDRA
Granite Camp Chair https://flic.kr/p/TsFYtK

The pants feature three rear pockets, one on the left, two on the right, one of which has a zipper closure so you can carry a couple of cards and some cash without worrying about losing it. It replaces your wallet.

If you reeeally want slim jeans, and want to look super cool at the trailhead for all the young folk, and reduce some excess fabric flapping, look for pants with a regular seam on one side rather than a flat-felled seam. You could pretty easily tailor it or get it tailored to taper the leg opening. I did that to my Quandary pants.

Arcteryx Palisades. Slim, breathe well, slightly stretchy, seams don’t rub the knees wrong, pocket placement exactly right. Perhaps the single best item in my kit. However not great for climbing/scraping across granite-

I’ll throw my choice in too.  I really like my rei screeline pants.  They are not baggy and have nice long legs.  I really like them a lot.

I don’t know what you want in a hiking pant, but I really like my Endura Urban Softshell Pant.

https://www.bikeinn.com/bike/endura-urban-softshell-pant/60833/p

They are made skinny for bicycling so that the ends don’t get into the chain. They are a little tight on my thighs, not like yoga pants or anything. They’re water restistant, dry quickly, and block some of the wind. I don’t bushwhack in them, but no wear in the seat area after a couple of thousand saddle miles.

I was sad when Outdoor Research stopped selling their Treadway pants.

Honestly, just find something that fits your waist – in my case, it was prana brion – and bring it to a tailor, who both tapered + hemmed for me for $15, made it seem like custom pants. no matter how fancy the tech sounds, an old fashioned good tailor will be able to work magic with it.

Maybe try women’s pants?

I know OP wants to try something besides Marmot, but I love the fit of my Marmot Arch Rock pants (men’s).

Instead of looking for “hiking” pants, maybe look into pants intended for running or sports. Maybe some nice nylon track pants with a slimmer fit?

I hate the look of most hiking pants. I also wanted a more casual look while being appropriate for the outdoors.

My favorites are the Prana Brion, as well as a couple of Fjallraven models (can’t remember specifically which right now).

Patagonia Gi III are slim. I don’t know if the longest length suits you or not.

It seems that only the cotton version is slim. The nylon version is regular. The Gi II got a lot wider than the Gi 1 that I had before and liked. I had to cut my Gi 2’s open to make them slimmer. I hope they come out with a nylon version of the slim Gi III.

Arcteryx softshell pants generally do have pretty ‘athletic’ fitted legs. Especially the Gamma Hybrid and Gamma Rock. The Gamma SL less so, and as you move into the more casual pants like the Palisade, the legs get a bit wider. Try the Gamma Hybrid. That’s about all I wear in the summers on hikes. The cuff is ‘welded’ so there is no way to rehem the cuff.

Someone suggested the Prana Brion which are ok (I originally purchased 2 pair) then I found the Wyatt by Prana and exchanged.

They are more slim than the Brion and Stretch Zion and use the same material. They are also not “skinny jeans” slim. These also have an integrated belt which is a REALLY nice feature – one less thing. They’ve just redesigned these with “regular” back pockets which was my only complaint about the gen1 ones (they have a weird/angled back zip pocket probably for climbers).

There’s also Oliver’s Apparel – Bradbury Jogger which is slim and tapered, has a zippered leg opening, 4-way stretch, DWR. No back pockets, but it does have side pockets w/ no zips.

I’ve tried a few cuts from Fjällräven, they were MC Hammer pants for me. Sent em back.
