So here’s the situation: my partner and I are looking for a sleeping pad and quilt that are more snuggle-friendly than our current setup, which is a double-width sleeping bag with conjoined-ish pads underneath. This system has worked adequately, but it’s presented us with three problems:
- The pads, being separate, inevitably slide apart from each other despite being contained within the sleeves on the underside of the bag. This means there’s always a cold spot between us, and someone’s arm always ends up being pressed into the ground.
- We tend to slide around a lot due to the slickness of the material of the sleeping bag, which exacerbates Issue #1.
- The bag and pads are reasonably heavy, which is fine for short trips and car camping, but not great for longer excursions.
So… I’m shopping for a double-width pad, and it needs to fit inside a Stratospire Li; anything under 45″ wide should work, and if it could be longer than 72″ I would be very happy. I was looking at the Q-Core SLX, as it’s one of the only non-tapered double-width pads I’ve found…and full-width at the foot area is important. Both of us tend to stretch our legs away from each other, so the 32″-wide pads concern me. Suggestions for alternate pads would be appreciated. Something that features a material that’s comfortable against the skin would be much appreciated, as would other/alternate ideas that could solve the problems.
I have NO idea whom to go to, quilt-wise. I think I need to solve the pad situation before I start thinking about the top layer.
I got this sheet from Thermarest. Synergy duo sheet. It keeps our 2 pads together rather comfortably. I connect both pads with the pad connector straps ( sold separately) and then use the fitted sheet. It is meant for rectangle pads but we use it with mummy style pads and it works just fine. That is why it looks seperate near lower end by my ankles. It stays together in the middle perfect. Maybe give it a try before spending money on a new double pad?
