Shipping down to ZPacks Backpack

I know weird but was thinking of stripping down the backpack taking out the stays and hipbelt and anything else I could find to lighten up backpacking for a JMT trip. I have a Burn, but packing my weekender bear canister in the pack doesn’t leave much room for anything else and it’s a pain to get in the pack.

Was thinking of buying a scout bear canister and trying that my longest without  resupply it’s between five and six days. Has anyone else used the burn and the scout bear canister?

Thanks!

Oops zpacks arc blast 2017

Dang it, I wish I could change the first post.  I meant to say thinking of stripping down ZPACKS backpack

So then the Arc Blast loses its arc and becomes a large frameless pack with no back ventilation or load distribution. Depending upon how much food you’re carrying, that could be a fairly heavy load at the start and after resupply, with all that weight on the shoulders.

I don’t get the point of the exercise, especially for a pack that weighs 21oz with no modifications, which are going to cut the weight by what — maybe 6 oz??

Also, packing a frameless pack is not the same as packing a framed one… it ain’t rocket science but there is a very real learning curve to it.

Definitely test drive with a full load on some short local trips before committing to the Big Trip!
