Intriguing. In my mind I unfairly compared the Solo to my old Duo Outfitter (great value, but an apple to an orange). The post 2019 Solo is very compelling @ $234 after their 10% discount pop up. Looks like a LOT of tent for the money. I don’t know if I’ll be able to beat that. Thanks for enlightening me!

I had a silnylon Lunar Duo that I liked, but I didn’t like the nylon. They’re poly now, they should be nicer. Looks like it has a spot for the dog on the Lunar Solo where Izzy isn’t trying to crawl out under the vestibule. A little shorter than the LHG.

I grabbed a LS. I think it’ll be perfect, and Allgood makes me smile!

I think there should be a rule about posting a photo of your dog if you are asking questions about dog gear. How else can we give proper advice? Luke, you should probably share a photo of Izzy the Adventure Dog just to be sure that your shelter choice will make sense.

The LS seems like a very good value and quite light for a non DCF tent. It should work well for a small/medium dog, so assuming Izzy isn’t too big or restless, I think that sounds like a great choice. The Zpacks Plexamid has a similar design, and that extra triangle of interior space (across from the pole) was perfect for my 50-lb Boxer to curl up in.

I tried it on a couple of trips with my large dog, Max, but unfortunately there was not enough space, he was all over me and pushing me against the door. With a smaller dog, you can just give them a hip-check and move them back into their place, but that doesn’t work with Max, he fills a lot of space. So I had to go to a 2-person tent. The Nemo Hornet is a decent choice for a big dog, since it’s really more of a 1.5 person tent, TBH, and I already had one of them in the basement. It doesn’t use trekking poles, though, so you’re carrying the extra weight of poles. For next season, I picked up a Durston X-Mid Pro 2 in DCF, which was definitely not cheap, but since I take my dog on all my trips, it will be my go-to shelter.

Dan, thank you for the additional thoughts. She’s a Doberhound with 12’ long legs, but one of her superpowers is activating sleep mode in which she shrinks herself to the size of a medium pizza. We’ll see how it goes. I’m stoked to seam seal it and find out!
