sewing zipper in cuben

I have a pair of MLD Rain Chaps cuben.  I’d like to sew a short waterproof zipper into the bottom of each leg to make it possible to add/remove them with my 12.5 shoes on.  I’ve never sewed cuben.  Is there any special technique I should use?  Or, treat the cuben like any other fabric and just sew?   TIA

Just sew it. IMO, at least try to use a smaller needle and thread, such as MARA 100 and a 70/10.

From what I’ve read on here… sew zipper onto a 1″ wide piece of cuban the length of your zipper then glue that to your chaps.

The above is correct and is what I did with a cuben tent I made. However, I don’t feel that’s necessary with the heavier variants, only with .51 osy cuben. I have sewn a lot of zippers on .74 and up cuben with zero issues. I’ve sold a handful of cuben zip sacks on here that were sewn in a standard fashion and noone has reached out to me with any issues.

I’d rather see than sew AND tape. Is the risk that the seams pull through the cuben?

I agree and yes, with .51 cuben that could happen. I recently made a rain jacket with pit zips out of the .71 cuben and just sewed them right on. No issues yet and I don’t foresee there ever will be.

Good stuff!  Thanks for the wisdom.  I started the zipper project and learned one thing–when you make a mistake in cuben and remove the seam, you get to live with every hole the needle makes ;-/
