Hey,
I’m looking for some advice on clothing for backpacking through the Columbia or Rogue River areas around Christmas. We will be spending three days out there. My wife and I spend most of our time in the sierras, so aren’t used to constant rain. We are prepared to get (and stay!) wet though.
Here are our gear lists: Mine and her’s.
To cover our clothing options:
Baselayers
- She has Patagonia Thermal Weight Capilene Layers (top and bottoms), and I have some Merino Air Bottoms.
Insulation
- Ghost Whisperer jackets for both of us.
Rain Protection
- She has an Alpine Houdini I have a Sierra Designs Cagoule.
What we are trying to figure out is:
- Should we buy gloves? I figure I would hike without them and mostly use them for camp.
- Should we get fleece or synthetic insulation jackets?
- Do we need hardshell jackets or would our softshells suffice?
- Any other advice besides, “Be ready to get wet”?
Thanks!
-Dennis
