I’ve owned several pair of shoes in the Scarpa “Ribelle” line and the Ribelle Run XT is my primary off-trail mountain shoe. I have about 800 miles of experience in them.

Durability – soles and uppers remain durable after 300+ miles of travel in mountain environments (rocky trails, talus, scrambling).

Traction – aggressive and positive on both mud and snow.

Technical performance – sticky rubber, full toe rand, and good stiffness make these the highest performing technical scrambling shoe I’ve ever used, and are about as good as you can get in a “trail running style of shoe”. Higher technical performance will require something akin to an “approach shoe” with a climbing-specific sole and more forefoot stiffness. I’ve used the Ribelle Run XT on numerous Class 3/4 scrambles and a few routes with short sections of low-class-5 terrain (e.g., < 5.4). If my routes have long sections of low-class-5 or sections with mid-class-5 terrain (e.g., 5.4 to 5.6) I usually opt for an approach shoe, something like a Sportiva TX4 Evo.

Strengths: durable, stiff, excellent rock scrambling & scree performance for a trail running shoe

Limitations: moderate drop, some bulk, heavier than “ultralight trail running shoes”, overkill for trail hiking
