My Garmin mini InReach yearly SAR subscription is about to expire next month and Garmin said that the Medevac insurance company is no longer available. The cost of the coverage for GEOS/SAR is the same without the added benefit of evacuation, should I need it. Are there other alternatives with better coverage/pricing than what Garmin now offers?

Didn’t Rex have an aritcle on rescue insurance? To me, Global Rescue is the gold standard.

Rex may have and most likely I read it. I will do more research. I’m beginning to think after Garmin has now ownership of GEOS and everything with it, some things will drop, or make it more ala carte for services. I can’t see spending for partial coverage when I do better using another company.

Eight years old, but I doubt much has changed, except for companies, policies, and prices. Ambulance helicopter prices are … sky high, but your medical insurance could cover most of the cost.

Biggest take aways: read all the fine print, know what you are paying for. Big difference between “insurance” and “assistance,” and you’ll mostly find the latter.

Thanks all. Yes, I am learning what exactly is assistance and insurance.

I do have a question about a rescue being covered outside of a national park. I am guessing if I am in a national forest or a state park the same would hold true.
