If you don’t want to do tracking but still want to leave some breadcrumbs along the way, I’m pretty sure there’s an option in settings to include your GPS coordinates in any text messages sent. Assuming you send out one or two a day on a trip and have your itinerary with someone, it should be pretty reasonable for a search.
Also – check your firmware regularly. Seems like they’ve been updating it often since getting purchased by Garmin. I hadn’t turned mine on in 9 months or so and there had been multiple updates to the firmware in that time. I’m on the old yellow InReach.
