Ruta Locura Yana pole strong enough for pyramid?

I have some CF trekking poles made by Titanium Goat. They seem to be identical to Ruta Locura’s Yana poles in two pieces (pretty thin CF tubes and only weigh around 4 ounces each.) I can insert the lower from one pole into the handle of the other to create a support long enough for my Shangrila 3, but is it advisable? Anyone use a setup like this? The connection system is ideal, but I’m worried the poles themselves are too thin.

I set it up in the park to compare the trekking pole setup with the factory pole. With the connected poles it felt solid enough, but the CF poles could easily “wobble” in the middle.

Just had an email reply straight from Josh at Ruta Locura, who recommended a lash system instead of screwing the poles together (more overlap and less chance of damage.)More importantly, he said I’m pushing it with a Shangrila 3, but please chime in.

I’ll likely try to trade these poles for a sturdier set, or a staff…

You are better off lashing to gain strength,  I used the 2 poles screwed together in an Ultimo 2 and in a wind storm one snapped…. Now I use them in an inverted V with a Solomid Xl and all is good

Thanks, Jeff. That’s evidence enough for me.
