Revised Ferrosi MVTR

Nice!  Thanks for the effort.  Will there be a revised list coming out at some point?  I would say this puts the Ferrosi at the high end.

Hey Stephen, does that change your thoughts on the following (from your previous article):

“[Ferrosi] does better at avoiding wet skin and layers than the Neoshell jacket I used for skinning. The Neoshell jacket has an air permeability of about 1 CFM/ft2 and an MVTR of 3893 g/m2/24 hours.”

Although the Neoshell fabric has a higher MVTR than Ferrosi, I don’t think that tells the whole story about the performance of my Neoshell jacket.  The jacket features were not constructed as I specified.   As a result, the jacket cannot actually perform as well as I expected.  It is unfortunate.  Feature set, construction details, and fit matter.  I think that is why the Ferrosi outperformed the Neoshell jacket last winter.  I only use the Ferrosi for skinning in the winter.  I do not use it for other activities because of its weight and limited packability.

I ask, because I also have a custom jacket constructed of Neoshell (by Made Apparell), for Ski touring (among other things)

I too was a bit disappointed with the features:

• The pockets are lined with Neoshell, not mesh
• the venting side zips, don’t reach into the armpits

The fabric was also thicker than my other Neoshell garments.

Hi Tijaard.  I would have to search for the reference.  It is not relevant to your story. I am a fan of electro spun membranes like  Neoshell but I have not seen light, highly packable implementations. My supply of ShakeDry jackets won’t last forever. Neoshell does come with a variety of face fabrics so weight and MVTR will vary.  I tested several and selected the best of those.  The unimpressive performance is not from the fabric. Rather, the construction of the jacket.

I asked because I have a Neoshell jacket manufactured by the custom brand “Made Apparel”.
it has fairly large pockets on the chest(both sides), that are Neoshell, not mesh, so they are doubling up the fabric there.

Although, given your other tests, of mesh pockets really help that much compared to WPB fabric pockets?
