After looking at many other insulated air mattresses and reading way too many reviews on them I got an REI “Insulated Air Sleeping Pad” at my local REI.

There have been numerous complaints about weld leaks but REI has assured me (two sales people on the phone and a store clerk) that if a weld breaks REI will stand behind it regardless of years of ownership. I realize pinholes elsewhere are my problem.

Sea to Summit has 40 denier thread fabric

REI has 30 denier fabric

Nemo has 20 denier fabric

Given this and that REI has this newer version I am hoping like he!! that my mattress won’t spring a weld leak. I’m prepared to patch a pinhole leak not on a weld area.

I got this mattress B/C it has an R 3.7 rating and is still 1 oz. lighter than my R 2.2 TR Prolite. I do a fair amount of local backpacking at altitude (over 9,000 ft. ) in spring and fall into winter so I need this warmth without the weight of my heavy TR Trail Pro self-inflator.

Plus it is more comfortable. More comfort is nice but once I pass out it’s not noticed. Maybe I’ll be less achey in the morning. We’ll see.

fingers crossed

Sorry to be contrary, but I looked at the many reviews that talk about leaks occurring with this pad. Personally, I would not buy it unless REI could assure me that they have fixed the problems with leaking.  Sure, REI might/will replace it if it fails, but a failed pad can ruin a trip, or worse if you are camping on snow. I hope yours works-out for you!
