I was looking for a new wind shell and ordered one of the Flash jackets. It’s not bad. Sizing was as expected and the fabric is good. It has a lot of stretch and breathes just a bit less than my 2011 Houdini: not on the plastic bag side and a good feel and good durability for a wind shell.

It’s not super light 8.4 ounces for a men’s  XL. I use wind shells a lot and I’m willing to throw in a few more ounces. This one is for urban/travel use anyway.

It has zippered mesh lined hand pockets (!), Lycra bound “scuba hood and a waist drawstring.

It lacks a chest pocket and has a separate self-stowing pocket with an annoying waist belt and buckle that creates a lump. Two snips with the scissors and a quick flaming of the ends took care of that and 0.4oz off the total. The stash pocket has another small zippered pocket that I could totally do without.  I could see using the self-stowing pocket for hiding stuff while traveling. I would gladly trade that whole mess for a chest pocket.

So it’s a keeper and does the wind shell dance: layered with base layer and/or fleece, light weight, packs small, good for wind, active cool weather and light precipitation.

I ordered one of those and like everything about it except the noise, so I returned it. It would scare deer off 200 yards away.

Nice fit and color.

I have a 60% hearing loss. Doesn’t bother me a bit :) I don’t hunt either

I suspect some of that will subside with a couple laundry cycles.

My wife is particular about the decibel level of rain pants.
