For winter it looks like the REI FLASH All Season insulated mattress at 1 lb. 3.4 oz. is a very good deal.

It has an R 5.2 insulating value and at the weight it likely is only beat by the Thermarest Neo-Air X-Therm for warmth-to-weight. but All Season FLASH price is considerably less.

An REI customer service rep told me REI will always stand behind any mattress that has a leak at the welds. (emphasis mine)

I may get one but for sure I am getting the 3 season Insulated FLASH air mattress this summer on the next 20% sale.

UPDATE:

I did get the REI FLASH Insulated air mattress (3 season R3.7 version) and the valve-compatible Sea to Summit inflation/dry bag. Works great – and fast.

I stand corrected, the down filled air mattresses are even warmer than the X-Therm.

Eric did you see these are $68 shipped for the wide regular, right now?

Todd,

Of course! just after I buy one for a “sale” price of $78. they go on sale for less.

Kinda like the line from the old hillbilly show “HEE-HAW” -> “…If it weren’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all.”

;o)

I waffle between the XThrm and the REI All-Season Flash. I throw in the XThrm when I’m spreadsheetin’ but when I’m packing from my gear closet, the Flash always wins out. It’s quieter and more comfortable for my achy back that the Xthrm. I still like the Xthrm well enough, but the REI pad gives you a ton of value for the cost, esp. when on sale.

Thanks for that vote of confidence Ryan. I would pay full price for the All SeasonFLASH if necessary just to get the warmth-to-comfort-to-value combination.
