Looking for something to organize my little stuff I take into the tent with me.  Thanks.

Does it have to zip?

I bought a Yama Mountain gear DCF stuff sack kit. At the time the kit was easier to come by than individual small bags. Kit comes with templates and instructions and they even have instructional videos on the website. Make the bag to whatever size you need.

Have a look at Six Moon Designs storage bags . . . excellent value

Superior Wilderness Design also sells a nice DCF food back that you could use to store food and little stuff in.

I use mine for my food, headlamp, spoon, knife, paperback book, etc.

Great suggestions – thank you.  Jeez, now to not overthink this.

I have a couple of the Equinox Monarch Ultralight Travel Bags. Several organizer pockets, but very light (unlike my old OR Possum Pockets). I use one for my dayhike ditties and the second for my overnight ditties.

Available here

Or from fivestarhikes or backcountrygear. Dutch used to carry them, but I don’t see them on his website any more.

I make my own out of USPS priority mailers and rubber cement.  Google is your friend and will show you how easy (and cheap) these are.

I don’t think they are still in business, but my normal ditty bag is a small travel cube from OverMountain Gear.  Perfect size for travel and it gets used so much for that I never take it backpacking.

Once you add a zipper to a bag that doesn’t need a zipper is it ultralight anymore?

I use oven roasting bags for most of my stuff, very light, cost a little more than a dollar, are durable, waterproof, and see through. Twist off and stuff into pack and I’m home-free.

It drove my girlfriend crazy (“looked homeless”) so she bought a bunch of different colored and sized stuff sacks, and compression sacks.

The next time we packed for a trip she didn’t even finish packing one of the fancy bags before she realized how much she liked being able to see through my oven bags, then dumped out the opaque bag and grabbed her old oven bags back.
