I just posted my first backpacking meal instructional video. Turmeric tea is a delicious drink that is lightweight in your backpack, and rivals hot chocolate in its tasty, creamy texture.

After mixing and dehydrating at home, all that you need to prepare this on the trail is one cup of hot water. If you do freezer bag cooking, this is a great addition to your kit!

All of my meals and gear are vegan, but even non-vegans will love this food, I promise.

More to come. Make sure to subscribe, so that you will see the next ones when they come out. I am starting to prep my meals for the coming season, so I expect to put up more as I finish making the full number of batches of one dish and then I switch to making the next item for the menu.

Thanks for watching!

Good stuff Howard.  As luck would have it, I have three pounds of turmeric root sitting in my kitchen and I’m going to give this recipe a shot.  Have you tried using fresh turmeric and ginger root in this recipe or is there a reason why I should just stick with powdered form?

According to here,

adding 1/4 tsp of black pepper will boost bioavailability of the curcumin (beneficial compound in turmeric) by 2000%.  We also add a bit of cardamom for flavor sometimes.

I have never tried it. It should work, but you may have to adjust quantities. Also, make sure to blend well, in order to have the correct consistency. Sounds great! Let me know how it comes out.
