[RESOLVED] Recent forum posts taking 25-30 seconds

Not complaining, just offering my observations…

Slowly but surely, refreshing the “recent topic” thread is taking longer.  Now about 5 sec or more (started out several days ago at 2-3 seconds reliably.  Since then refresh times have not wavered up and down, but instead appear to be slowly and steadily increasing.  All times of the day.

@JCH – can you make a screen recording (Loom is ideal) of this exact action and submit it to our helpdesk (helpdesk@backpackinglight.com)? Please include your browser type, time and date of recording. We can then match it to our logs for your user account and diagnose.

(This may be related to the edge-caching environment that we are working on right now – during this phase of testing, we do have page caching turned off on the site to collect some baseline data on the new server, so that may result in +1 to 2 added seconds on page load times for recent-forum-topics and forum post submissions.)

Ryan – let’s wait until your testing is completed and the system is in a “stable, final” state before we start trying to run down supposed performance issues.

@JCH Understood, but it should not be taking 5+ seconds, and if it is, then there’s something else going on that’s not related to our caching testing. We are monitoring an average here of < 2.1 sec since the server upgrade so far (that’s with page caching disabled); so 5+ sec is a pretty big disconnect.

Simply refreshing the Recent Topics page takes less than 2 seconds. After posting a reply to a post, then using the browser’s Back button to return to the Recent Topics page the refresh takes close to 5 seconds.
