question for sawyer squeeze filter users: what system parts do you usually bring

For those of you who are regular users of the Sawyer Squeeze filter:

Which parts do you normally bring into the backcountry with you?

* syringe, caps/adapters, the mesh storage bag, the included bottle?

Curious as to what gets kept and what gets tossed or left behind from this packaged system.

I bring the filter, a small adapter I bought somewhere that contains a small felt debris filter and threads perfectly to my Platypus bags ( I wish I could remember the adapter brand), and one of the flip tops from a smart water bottle, as that adapts perfectly to the Sawyer filter to allow back-flushing. It all goes into a plastic zip lock bag.

I haven’t used my Sawyer in quite a while. When I did I used it more like the Quickdraw (used a water bag to pour filtered water into my drinking container) rather than attached directly to a Smartwater bottle.

I would bring the appropriate bags for the trip (typically Evernew 2L) and I would bring a thread coupler (attached to the Sawyer) so I could back-flush without the syringe.

I used the full size after having bad luck with the lifespan of a mini between back-flushes.

I take nothing from the kit except for the filter.

I use the flip top cap from the Smartwater bottle as a cap for the sawyer and I just bring an extra o-ring because losing one sucks.

Filter, spare washer & the blue nut thingy for backflushing.  1L Platy for dirty water.  Smartwater bottle fliptop cap stays on filter unless I need to backflush

I bring an extra o ring, cnoc dirty water bag, and a 1L sawyer bag with the top cut off (works as a scoop for shallow sources). I’ve had pretty good success backflushing with a smart water bottle, as long as I gently tap the housing on something between flushes.

I bring the filter – with either a quick disconnect adapter for filling a hydration reservoir (if I am carrying one), or the flip-top that comes with the Sawyer if I am using bottles, the syringe for back-flushing, a cut-off section of water bottle for a scoop, and two of the smart water dirty water bags (usually 1 qt.). And almost forgot – an extra o-ring and an extra cap for the dirty water bags.

I always take the syringe after spending a week on a trail crew where we couldn’t backflush effectively.  Boiled a lot of water on that trip…

I’ve had a Sawyer reduced almost to a dribble after pulling from a single water source, so I always carry the syringe.  I figure the sooner I backflush the better in a situation like that.

An extra gasket and sports cap for backflush.

I dont carry it much these days, more into aquamira now, but I always brought with it a sawyer bladder with the top cut off for use as a collapsible dip cup, an extra oring, a coupler for easy backflushing and a smart water sport cap for easy access. Been a minute but I think I used to backflush with the sport cap if it wasn’t too clogged. Lots of sediment in the water where I mainly hike, so backflushing is an almost daily occurrence if one wants any sort of decent flow rate.
