Think if potentially camping exposed during shoulder season, I’d want MLD for UL gear. Summertime in the treeline with 2 clouds forecast 3 weeks away, maybe something from a company on hand and lighter. A lot of this gear works, but may be looking at well-mad in case if inclement weather (like returning to the Rockies area). Climbers use waterproof -breathable bivies, so there’s that.
Same with packs, though I’d add LiteAF packs domestic line currently and I’ve read a good review of Redpaw packs with running vest straps vs other companies for that design (the review was from a group using various packs over the same distance over a long trip).
Clothing? Love to go with a custom maker one of these days (Goosefoot, Timmermade), but I tend to go with known quality makers here (Patagonia, OR, Columbia, Mountain Hardwear [owned by the former], TNF, Rab, Montbell, Montane, etc..). It’s really the feel of the fabric and reputation for quality. It gets personal though. I tried a highly rated baselayer (on sale) most say is very breathable but a couple city blocks later, I sent it back to REI with my complaint and went back to Patagonia Capilene Cool. Same with shoes. Some love Altra, some hate them. With REI I can try them and if quickly they disappoint, I can return them.
