Immy “UNICORN” parka post I find everything I like is very pricey.

SO… on those very cold days above -10 F. I’ll layer the following: 1.)synthetic fleece base layer   2.)heavy Norwegian wool sweater  3.)Patagonia R2 hoodie  (hood UP inside ski helmet)  4.) light down jacket 5.)eVent parka  Plus OR GTX mitten shells over Dachstein boiled wool mitten liners.

That certainly should keep me warm

The other week Kane Does Outdoors had a video talking about Eddie Bauer clothes he likes.  It might be work watching.  I don’t remember exactly what he wears but I think he had a grid fleece hoodie and a thinner synthetic puffy, then we has that big decathlon jacket for camp.

SHAMELESS PLUG:

I finally found my unicorn winter parka, an LL Bean Wind Challenger. Amazingly well designed.

1.) fully adjustable, helmet-compatible hood. 2.) two way waterproof front zipper. 3.) WOVEN down baffles.  4.) two hem elastic cinch cords.  5.)EXTERNAL pockets-> 2 hand warmer, one Napolean, one left forearm RFD ski pass card pocket. INTERNAL->left large mesh “drying’ pocket, upper right “trail map” pocket and… 6.) generous pit zips

I would say this parka is good for -20 F. with decent mid layer like my heavy Norwegian sweater over a  BRYNJE base layer. Plus the fabric is mildly stretchy and tough.

Yeah it is made with “only” 650 DWR treated down but I’m likely not stuffing it tightly for packing and it resists compression a bit more when leaning against the back of a lift chair on a long, freezing ride up a windy mountain.

So hallelujah! I done found my unicorn parka.
