Is there a general consensus regarding what power banks for recharging are “best” (yeah, I know…)? What about strategies for longer trips: is it better to carry one larger one or two smaller ones?

one larger one will weigh less, but just barely
my 10,000 Anker – 7 ounces, 20,000 – 13 ounces
but if you, for example, take a 20,000 when you only need a 10,000, that would be significant for BPL
the only way to reasonably select a power bank is to try one, and based on usage possibly buy a different one that’s more or less as needed
those power banks that use 18650 batteries are good because you can take as many as you need
lots of good threads here about power banks
Thanks Jerry. I tried searching the forum, but couldn’t find a field for keyword search. I will check out the 18650’s – didn’t even know those existed!
Someone did an excellent review of 3 power banks about a month ago. Wish I bookmarked it. Maybe the OP will link it?
there’s this one https://backpackinglight.com/forums/topic/battery-bank-for-charging-electronics/
i did a google search “power bank 18650 site:backpackinglight.com” and there were a bunch of threads
Most forums have an embedded search feature. I didn’t think to try google…
Jerry, go to the very top of the BPL page( the black bar where it says BACKPACKINGLIGHT and all the way to the left you will see a magnifying glass in a white box, click on that and search bar will appear and you can type in what you are searching for instance type in BATTERY BANK and it will take you ….
maybe that didn’t used to work?
Oops… missed that…!
Hey Jerry, the link the other Jerry (sounds like Abbot and Costello) linked was not the one I was thinking of.
Not to say it’s no good, it might be what you are after.
I checked my browsing history on Amazon-this is the one the person had tested recently and rated as best
I was disappointed because it doesn’t post to Australia.
This one at 3000 mh also rates highly.

Here are the results of my testing on four banks, perhaps this is the thread Graham was referencing: https://backpackinglight.com/forums/topic/power-bank-testing-results/. I did not test many models if based on manufacturer specs they were clearly out of the running for most efficient. I’d be interested in testing additional banks if the specs look competitive.
I did conclude that the ZMI is most efficient in terms of mAh/oz in the 10,000 mAh range (6,935 mAh for 6.3 oz), but if you need less power you could go lighter with the WINNI (5,460 mAh for 5.93 oz) or the River Rapid (3,130 mAh for 3.55 oz).
Bingo! John Papini. Thanks. Excellent post, I shall now bookmark it. I would love you to test the 3000mh one I linked John. For about 6 days out that one would probably cover most people and I believe (?) it is competitive for weight and efficiency specs.
