Best spot to base camp with tree cover? Thinking about Dream Lake but open to other spots. We’d like to set up base camp and day hike from there.

With the pine bark beetle infestation in the winds, camping spots under trees is constantly in flux. it cannot be predicted from year to year. Be careful camping under dead trees, there are lots of them.
There are some good spots just north of Dream Lake along Dream Creek. Access from Middle Fork Trail. Some tree cover if you look for it.
Broadly speaking, it is usually fairly easy to find a decent camp site in the Winds. No need to stress too much.
Note: Treat your drinking water–there are lots of domestic sheep in that general area.
