My wife and I are going to be in the area with our two kids in a couple of days. Any trails we should day hike? We’ve backpacked Eagle Rock Loop before, but any other scenic areas right around Hot Springs, AR? Or is it just a tourist trap? I may come back to do a solo trip before the winter is over–if you have suggestions in Arkansas aside from ERL for that as well, I’d love to hear them. We’re coming up from Texas.
Hot Springs does have some trails, but I haven’t hiked them. The Arkansas Hiking Trails book by Tim Ernst describes an 8 mile loop that sounds pretty nice for being near a town. Places I’ve backpacked in central/east Arkansas and recommend are Caney Creek Wilderness, Black Fork Wilderness, and most any part of the Ouachita Trail.
