Hello,
I am a side sleeper and use a Klymit XLarge Pillow. I was wondering if there were tall other ones that people could suggest? Also could use a ‘blanket’ type thing to lay over me at night in hot temps that won’t add heat. Thanks!

This two-layers-of-noseeum-with-foam-block-spacers is the least heat retaining + bug proof option I know of. Pricey but unique I believe. At $240, might worth a few hours to just glue a couple hundred little open cell foam blocks between 2 layers of noseeum netting yourself.
I apologize but this would be in a tent but the noserim is a great idea. Thanks!
How about some Alpha Direct for a blankie?
I like my S2S ultralight “deluxe” pillow and it’s been the only one to work. Don’t use it indoors as the baffle can pop pressed against furniture (saving you the $45 lesson).
I’d say if going the blanket route, go with the S2S silk liner. Maybe undo an edge (finished) so it can lay flat for certain occasions (how hot are we talking about?), but semi-burrito rolled if a draft needs sealing out. I backpacked in Hawaii a couple times (low just below 60°F on the beach) and was ok using a Patagonia R1 chest zip laid atop like a “blankie” but think the S2S backed up by alpha direct would work better.
With the whole sleeping out in the heat thing, read there’s a psychological need to some sort of coverage.
Add: Another idea for tropical is a lightwt hammock with netting (trying to get the air flow underneath).
by hot I am talking like 70+F. I find Alpha Direct by itself does retain a good amount of heat but maybe the silk liner?
I like the hammock suggestion if you can hang.
My daughter has made it abundantly clear that no matter how cool I think I am, I most assuredly cannot hang.
Well played dad joke, @JCH. I’ve heard the same.
I’d like to +1 the liner and hammock ideas. I used both in HI on a bucket-list trip and it kept me cool (my daughter would have different thoughts, I’m sure), while still having blankie-like coverage. The liner seemed to provide some evaporative cooling while the hammock was convective. I think the liner is a S2S Coolmax or similar.
Any suggestion on a liner Something that does not add heat?
Sea to Summit Coolmax liner might work for you.
Coolmax definitely helps in warmer humid locales, and 11 oz rectangular … vs silk (slightly warming) is absorbent and is 5.8 oz in the same shape.
Recall reading the optimum sleep temperature for most humans is between the upper 60°F to lower 70°F-ish range. Sometimes on a hot night with no A/C (primitive arid environments), I’d pat some water on my bare torso and legs with just a pair of boxers, .. keeping the sheet rolled down to I guess subconsciously bring it up at night.
More humid areas having some dry sleep clothes or a layer seems to work better (maybe the cool max?).
