Patagonia R2 hoody

Last year I was gifted a Patagucci R2 hoodie (my requested selection).

For alpine skiing I found great over a base layer, a wool sweater and under a WPB parka shell. The hood zips up to my nose and I love that coverage for cold, windy chair lift rides. That high coverage is good as well with the hood down but covering the back of my neck and, all zipped up, covering the rest of my neck.

Also it’s great for cool to cold days when I don’t need a wind shell. It is about as wind resistant as a “soft-shell” and decent in cold, misty days for water repellence. I dislike the bulky feel of soft shell jackets so the R2 is just what I want for many situations in winter and shoulder seasons.

Anyone else like this hoody?

Mine’s almost 8 years old. It’s losing some of the elastic on in the cuffs. I contemplated a new one last year, but it’s still wearable and functional. Pretty much as you described. The tech face keeps the wind out and helps with light rain. It’s not clammy. Nice length. Nice discounts if you can find the right size and don’t care about color. Buy last years offerings.. Right now they have some mediums highly discounted.

I have an R1 and an R2.  I find the R1 virtually the same warmth and wind resistance with far less weight and bulk. I have not science to back that up.  I would be interested if there is any.
