I felt like the OR Echo/Patagonia Cap Lightweight were some of the best baselayers on the market. They were thin and light, and therefore the breathability was unmatched and they dried fast. I recently discovered the Cap Lightweight disappeared from Patagonia’s website, but now see a new running baselayer made out of Capilene Cool Lightweight. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks different than the previous Lightweight, but at 3.3oz for a longsleeve crew, it is obviously a thin fabric. Has anyone tried it yet?

I know nothing about the Capilene Cool Lightweight but just as an FYI, the Rab Interval baselayers are the same material as the OR Echos.
I saw some of the cool shirts at the patagonia store the other day. The fabric looked just like capilene lightweight from what I could tell. The store person wasn’t able to tell me what the difference was between the two.

I find it odd that they have removed “Lightweight” Capilene from the baselayer section of their website in the season where you would think they would be selling quite a few of their lightest weight baselayer. The only baselayers shown are “Midweight”, “Thermal”, and “Capeline Air”. The Capilene Cool Lightweight only shows up in the “Trail Running” segment of the website.
It’s good to know that the Rab Interval is the same material. I’m always on the lookout for good deals on OR Echo or Patagonia Lightweight baselayers – I will add the Rab to my search. Using them running daily puts the need out for quite a few baselayers and I’m too cheap to pay MSRP.
Since posting above, I have become aware that Rab has discontinued the Interval line (though for now they’re still available from various retailers). The Pulse looked rather similar so I emailed them to ask if it was the same material and got this reply:
“The fabric used on the Interval and Pulse range is essentially the same thing.
We have now combined the two fabrics (Motiv G & H) together as they share the same set of performance characteristics but with slightly different weights and appearances depending on style.”
