Hey there, looking for your suggestions on fave travel pants that are comfy, breathe well, look cool, that you can go out with but maybe do a hike with, not baggy?

Like just for city travel.

Been Googling around, lots of choices, just curious on your suggests.

Look is subjective.  I like the Rail Rider Eco Mesh pants, for the bug and sun protection and breathability.  Mine are not too baggy by my standards, but they look more like outdoor with the zippers opened to expose the mesh.  I still think they are more appropriate for city travel than shorts.

Of course location matters,  If you are in Scotland, or can pull off the highlander look…

That IS a challenge.  It’s incredibly difficult to find really great travel pants that don’t make you look like you’re:

(a) 90 years-old and on a cruise; or

(b) In some sketchy para-military organization; or

(c) The #1 contributor to NerdsRus.com; AND

(d) Will dry overnight in your hotel room…

I think I finally found some for my husband, but be prepared to spend the “big bucks”, even on sale.  They are quite slim-fit, and could be worn to a nice dinner or a concert:

Rab Longitude pants – super comfortable, cool, quick drying, lightweight and they pack into their own back pocket. And you don’t look like a Bear Grills wannabee – non convertible and no chunky cargo pockets. I travel a lot in India and Nepal and these are great. They also block wind. If the weather turns cold I just wear some thin merino leggings underneath.  In the UK Rohan also make popular travel clothing.

For other offerings, check out Colombia, Patagonia, North Face and Outdoor Research. The Prana Stretch Zion pants are very popular but I found them too hot for warm climates.

I like the fit and fabric of the Exofficio Ziwa bugs away pants which look quite nice for travel.  STP usually has them on sale.

I prefer Kuhl Revolvr and Radikl pants.  From a fashion standpoint, the Revolvrs are khakis so are fine with a t shirt or button down.  I travel pretty light so having this flexibility is important.  I traveled with two pair on my last trip through India where I followed a wash one / wear one routine and did all of my own laundry in the hotel sink.  Even though it was winter which means cool and damp in the Golden Triangle region (no real climate control in my $10 hotel rooms), my pants were dry enough to wear by the next morning.

The Radikls are a unique style but are by far the most comfortable pants I’ve ever owned.  Like pajamas comfortable.

A big thing with not looking like you meet one (or more than one) of Valerie’s criteria, is how you pair it with footwear/top. Don’t pick a matching set, and don’t pick just alternative similar tops! Looks terrible. Relatively quick dry sports T Shirts (like what you can get from Under Armour, Nike, North Face, etc) look much better, as can polo shirts. Avoid the cargo pockets if you can too-not always easy. And most definitely avoid zip offs…worst look in history…garanteed way to look like a loser while travelling…

A good trick to getting your clothes to dry quicker overnight, is to wrap them up in a towel and stand on them. Even the quick dry stuff, makes a difference. Of course this assumes you are staying in a place with a towel.

Prana Zions are great pants although I find them warm for hiking above ~80°.

I just got a pair of REI Screeline pants.  They feel great, stretchy, cool and look really nice too.  I don’t have any hiking time in them yet but have worn them on a hot day.  I thought they fit me much better than the zions and look similar.

I really like the C9 Golf pants at Target. They look like regular dress pants (black) or khakis with normal pockets. They’re quick-dry polyester, lightweight and breathe well, not too baggy. I’ve worn mine both bushwhacking and to weddings. And they’re $33 at full price but often on sale/ clearance for quite a bit less. http://www.target.com/p/c9-champion-men-s-golf-pants/-/A-17008474
