Hey all – it’s been a while since I was last on a packraft and just planned a trip to raft the Escalante River from 4/22 – 4/25 with a few friends.

I’ve read that rafting this river is highly dependent on snow melt. Does this seem like a good time frame or when will you have a better idea?

I’ve been watching the water levels pretty closely and it’s fluctuating between 1.6 ft and 1.9 ft (https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1848/). Anybody that is more local have a sense of whether we’ll get lucky or be out of luck with those dates? Definitely want to avoid ass-dragging during the packrafting trip if at all possible.

We were planning on putting in around the Highway 12 bridge and want to make it to Coyote Gulch.

Worth joining this Facebook group and asking there. I went from Highway 12 down to Crack in the Wall @1.25ft. Lots of scraping. Timing is always hard with the Escalante.
