Lately our weather reports have been greatly exaggerated. Not as cold or windy or snowy as predicted, at all. However, you still sort of have to pack for the worst that’s predicted, because what if? For a short hike today, I was assembling my gear (I often use the same gear for an all day hike as for a short hike) and as I was checking pockets in my coat and day pack, I had to laugh. I can’t remember the last time I used instant hand warmers – the little tear open packets. But I had them in every pocket of my coat, in my shell, in several pockets in my pack, in my cell phone pouch – so many hand warmers! I emptied some out – I still do like having enough for two people, because when I have used them, a friend often needs some too.

Anyway still packing along some fears? I suspect I’m very overdressed today. Pic from recent hike.

Weather predictions here (SE Nebraska) were for -20 windchills, Rain, freezing rain, snow, blizzard-like snow, freezing rain, snow. Great way to spend four days hiking & camping. Yes, knowing that this was on the way I did pack my fears. Dealt with another favorite: mud. The quiet was very nice, as always.
