    Apparently most PCT thru-hikers skipped the High Sierra this year, and are returning to hike the skipped section, like Savannah Fitz:

    That was just the dilemma Fitz and her companions faced: either power ahead despite the dangers so they could complete the trail the “right way,” in one continuous line; or, play it safe and temporarily skip the worst section with a plan to return to it before finishing their trek.

    It was a decision no one wanted to make.

    As has been noted a few times, everyone should still use extreme caution crossing fast streams, and not hesitate to wait until the water flow may be less in the morning, or at least go off-trail to hike to find a safer crossing. These drowning events are just so sad.

    @gg-man

    There was another hiker found dead in a stream in N. Yosemite. There is also at least one other one missing and another unverified report of another drowning in SEKI.  This is in addition to two deaths on Whitney that didn’t involve PCT hikers.
