Howdy. I was planning to go out this weekend for a quick over night and found the Roaring Creek/Big Mountain Trail loop. I saw a few blurbs about it on Midatlantichikes.com, but wanted to see if anyone here had any experience on it they could share. Thanks

First off, thank you for a great hiking idea. I saw your post and it immediately solved my trail running issue for this weekend. THis morning I just ran the loop only I ran down rat 42 instead of the Pump House Trail. Our route was just over 20 miles and we finished in 4.5 hours and that was not pushing at all, it just good trail to run.

As far as backpacking it, if you haven’t already left, it is super easy with one hill. I saw no obvious campsites which doesn’t mean they aren’t there. No camping is allowed within 300 ft of Roaring creek trail and/or the reservoirs or stream. NO water once you hit the ridge but there was plenty of water on the roaring creek trail.

roaring creek trail is a multi use rail or road trail. There weren’t as many people as I would expect give the gorgeous day today.

Nice little loop, thanks for the idea.
