Ohm 2.0 Frameless + Sleeping pad?

Anyone ever used their Ohm 2.0 with a foldable sleeping pad (I have a Nemo Switchback) as the frame instead of the aluminum stay that comes with the pack?  Or…has anyone used both simultaneously??  I was looking at my pack tonight and noticed two elastic straps inside the pack at the top.  These straps are angled from the top of the interior to the outsides.  I’m assuming these straps are there to help anchor a sleeping pad in place to sit flat against your back.  Again…that’s an assumption.  I’ve yet to hike with this pack (got it this winter) so I’m just curious about it.  Any Ohm 2.0 aficionados out there have some experience with this?

Thanks!  Happy Easter!

My husband has original Ohm and always uses his sleeping pad against the back (along with the aluminum stays). It’s comfortable that way, and the sleeping pad has to go somewhere inside, so why not against the pack for cushioning.

Thanks, Kimberly!  I read about that somewhere I think…the comfort factor.   Placing your pad there to prevent things poking your back.  I wonder if there’s any structural benefit though…  My Nemo Switchback unfolded to “halves” fits in those straps perfectly. They had to have been placed there just for that.  Too perfect of a fit.  Thanks again!

That IS why there are angled straps like that.  I have them in my old Conduit, too, which doesn’t have the stays, and the backpad is an important in giving the pack some structure, and comfort.

My Ohm 2.0 is about 5 years old, but it came with a thin foam pad already inside those elastic straps, so that’s what they are for. Mine has a carbon fiber/delrin hoop for suspension. No aluminum stay. If you take out the pad/hoop, it’s pretty close to their frameless CDT pack.

If your pad fits, that’s a great place to store it.

Well, the Ohm comes with a pad, which is held in place by those two elastic straps and if of proper size will also be pinned by the carbon tubes.

I have not tried it, but do not see why you cannot use the Nemo in place for padding.
