North-South Lake Loop Shuttle – Early Sept

That would work out perfectly, except two of the folks are flying in and a rental car would be expensive for us dirtbags.

There are shuttle services in the area, but they aren’t cheap.  Look at Eastside Sierra Shuttle (Paul) and/or Lone Pine Kurt (google them for contact info).

Or do as we did a few years ago, enquire all over Bishop the day before to find someone willing to do it for a small fee (I’d offer $50-75), then you drive your car to the end point and park the car; they follow you and drive you to your start point.

Finally, you could park at your start point, do your hike, and have one of you hitchhike back to your car, then come back to get the rest of you.  You may find someone willing to drive all four of you back to your car, but hitching is hard with a group!

Ah yes, thanks Valerie. I’d thought of the one person hitch idea, but totally forgot to voice that in my initial post! Too bad I can’t edit the OP :( So for future onlookers:

Looking for a ONE PERSON hitch/shuttle on the North-South Lake Loop. We are starting at North on Sunday Sept 4, finishing at South on Friday Sept 9. Shuttling either way (either putting our car at the start or finish)–doesn’t matter.

How is hitch hiking there?  From South to North?

I would think people are pretty friendly to fellow hikers and that shuttle is pretty common.

How far is it to hike over Table Mountain?  That must be pretty much as scenic as the rest of your hike

I heard the hitch hiking is decent–the reports I’ve read say it took about an hour to find a ride. We planned our start on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, and our end on a Friday, so hopefully that’s conducive to easy hitching.

Table Mountain/Tyee Lakes I heard is underrated, and I’m interested in checking it out. It’s 8mi of trail but unfortunately requires about 5mi of road walking. I think, though, that I’d rather spend our “extra” time taking a side trip exploring Darwin Bench, Dusy Basin, etc.

I believe Paul charges $200 for that ride. I suspect was booked months ago for that weekend but you can give him a try.

Thanks guys. I’ll try a hitch from a kind soul in the area; just thought I’d post here to see if the shuttle arrangement could be mutually beneficial for anyone.

I’ve hitched this bit a few times, always north to south. There’s a recreational lake at both ends so a fair amount of traffic. I think an hour’s wait has been typical for me as a solo hiker. Maybe make a sign that says “my car is at North/south lake” so the driver knows it will be  a short ride and that you are responsible enough to own a car. But that’s several ounces.
