My MSR windpro is getting up there in age (6-ish years) and is starting to make strange noises during operation – as if the flame is not burning steadily or there is a strong wind. I am suspecting some type of clogging in the flex hose that goes from the canister to the head. Any suggested cleaning methods? Or is it time to “invest” another $100 into yet another cash flow negative hobby?

Found reason, posting it here in case anyone else has a similar issue.  The screw in the middle of the burner had fallen off and this was disrupting the flow of gas, occasionally gas would divert to the center hole causing the noise and disrupting the flame.  Bought a 4-pac of stainless 3/8″ 10-32 screw from the big box store and now the problem is gone.  Glad I did not shell out $100 for a replacement.

Nice job diagnosing and fixing it.  Thanks for conveying the solution!

…is starting to make strange noises during operation – as if the flame is not burning steadily or there is a strong wind.

On my last trip I noticed the same issue with my FMS-117T (photo below is someone else’s stove).

When I got home I replicated the change in sound while watching the flame (it kind of sounds like the flame has gone out) but the flame didn’t change much at all. Based on Boyan’s post above I looked for a loose screw but didn’t see anything at all that I could adjust.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Also, the rivet on one leg is really tight which makes it difficult to extend and contract the leg. Any suggestions on how to loosen it without replacing the rivet with a bolted connection?

Wd40 on the latter question. On the former I would check the tightness of all couplings from. The plastic orange part up. Specifically where the mushroom head connects to the barrel below it.
